Top 10 Biopics Bollywood Fans Wish to Watch

Last year, Bollywood's most media savvy filmmaker, Karan Johar, released his autobiography, The Unsitable Boy. It was lapped up by the media and readers alike for the honest, decisive, compelling and somewhat controversial (read, Shivaay and one-time best friend Kajol episode) writing. The autobiography also released the other side of Bollywood's pomp and gaiety.

Walking down a similar path now is yesteryear's female superstar Asha Parekh, divulging all about her starry life and times to celebrated film critic and author Khalid Mohamed, who has penned the book, aptly named on the actress's nickname - The Hit Girl.

Bollywood's eternal Bachelor and Dabangg star, Salman Khan, has written the foreward to the biography, which he is all set to launch on April 10 in Mumbai with Asha Parekh and Khalid Mohammed.

Talking to media about The Hit Girl, Asha Parekh touched many topics about the life and times of an actress during her active years and how industry and cinema has changed over time. When asked about who will be the right actress to play her on the screen, Parekh took names of Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt, probably thinking of the current Hit Girls.

Biopics are a current favorite these days, with MS Dhoni  and Dangal becoming big blockbusters last year and several biopics being made or reportedly planned on renowned personalities. Here's a look at the Top 10 Biopics Bollywood Fans wish to watch:

1) Sanjay Dutt

The only movie in our list that is already under-production, the film, shooting of which is underway, is set for a Christmas 2017 release. Written and directed by Rajkumar Hirani and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the film is based on the life of actor Sanjay Dutt, with Ranbir Kapoor portraying the role of Dutt. The supporting cast includes Anushka Sharma, Sonam Kapoor, Manisha Koirala, Paresh Rawal, Dia Mirza, Karishma Tanna, Jim Sarbh and Vicky Kaushal.

Dutt had a troubled early life, was involved in Bombay Riots and had to finally serve 6 years in prison to get his name free. His romantic link-ups were another story that filled the gossip columns of newspapers. The relationship he shared with his parents, both among the most celebrated film actors of Indian Cinema, is a touching tale by itself too. Ranbir can been seen working heavily on his physicality for the role and this is one movie, under the able guidance of one of the best filmamker, is a definite watch.

2) Salman Khan

Bollywood resident Bad Boy who turned Human as he matured but still remains Eternal Bachelor despite being 50 plus, Salman Khan's life has been nothing short of a roller coaster ride and one that everyone is curious to know more about. However, ask bhai about the same and he says, "See, my life is very boring and biopics aren't made on boring lives. Several people will die in my biopic." He further added, "I will never give permission to anyone to make a biopic on me because for that one will have to write it down and the only one who can write it down is me or my brothers or my sisters...that too at some bits. They also don't know everything. And no actor can play my role."

It tough to imagine anyone who can step into his shoes to play him but his is one story that has sure shot Mega Blockbuster written all over its movie adaptation.

3) Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

The most beautiful woman in the world, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's life is nothing short of a Princess Diary. It is an open book yet one feels one doesn't really knows what goes behind those sea green eyes. She is the most Loyal Friend for some and Ice Princess for all others. Critics either love her for her honesty or hate her for being unconcerned about her sometimes vapid and sometimes extraordinary take. From being in Bollywood's most picture-perfect relationship yet abusive and career ending relationship with Salman Khan to having the most fairytale wedding with Abhishek Bachchan, she is the perfect daughter, wife, daughter-in-law and mother. Yet her perfections are the biggest reason for the hate she gets from non-fans, whom she never considers because of the enormous love she gets from within and outside the Film Industry.

For someone to have reached almost unparalleled heights of stardom in not just Bollywood but also in International platform after being unofficially banned from their movies by the Three Khans (Salman, SRK, Aamir) in the starting of this century and also to continue being the biggest headline grabber in her every action, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's life is nothing short of Bollywood Entertainment.

4) Rekha

Evergreen Bollywood Diva Rekha's public persona was as tumultuous and turbulent as her personal life. In the new biography Rekha: The Untold Story written by Yasser Usman and launched in September last year, the writer chronicles her life and days and some of the excerpts from the book reveal details that are, well, have to be read to be believed.

From getting 'molested' on her debut film's sets to getting humiliated by Vinod Mehra's mother, from dealing with an 'alleged' affair with a Amitabh Bachchan to getting shamed by the entire country for husband Mukesh Agarwal's death, Rekha had to brave it all.

With time, the actress grew bigger than the movies that she starred in or the roles that could be written for her and she set up a seemingly mysteriously hidden personal life which no one, read NO-ONE, could access. Her Silsila, pun intended, is a dream script for a Major Bollywood Musical Blockbuster.

5) Amitabh Bachchan

If it's Rekha's story for a biographical, how can Amitabh Bachchan be any behind. Yash Chopra gave us a peek into their intervened love affair with SILSILA but we sure want to know how the Diva's sindoor came out years after that, and so much more.

In two years, the Megastar will complete half a century as an actor in Indian Cinema. Amitabh Bachchan may not be the first one to attain this feat but not one of his seniors with the same feat have been as active as his, forget about that author backed title roles are still being written for him.

The professional and personal ups and downs that Big B have seen is unmatchable. From being bankrupt to bouncing back to being the highest tax payer among the industrywalas, from being involved in country's one time biggest Political scam in Bofors to getting freed from it, there is so much to know about that even one biographical will do no justice to his life.

6) Shah Rukh Khan

Shahrukh Khan is probably the biggest example of rags to riches story in Bollywood. From being an outside to becoming not just the country's Badshah, giving biggest grossers across the world, to being the favorite with media - a feat despite his achievement feels like impossible.

Every few years, he is written off. He is going through a lull at the box-office, despite having the most innovative and daring choices at scripts when compared to Salman Khan and Aamir Khan. Yet the results are not showing, despite the amazing FAN and fabulous RAEES.

He has also had his share of link-ups and the stories of how his youngest child AbRam was conceived as an idea are aplenty. His life is like an open book, much like his now open entry at Wankhade Stadium, yet it has all the ingredients of a Mysterious and at times Meglomaniac Superstar. A Biopic on his will be treat, hopefully from either of his buddies like Karan Johar or Farah Khan. Truly an Indianwala Biopic.

7) Kangana Ranaut

No actress has caught media fascination in recent days like Kangana Ranaut. She calls an axe an axe and comments her mind like a true QUEEN, pun intended.

Ranaut, once famed for her regular portrayals of psycho characters on screen with aplomb and who even got dubbed the modern day Meena Kumari for her screen image,

8) Raj Kapoor

9) Guru Dutt

He was a filmmaker unlike any other. Those brooding eyes, those intense cinema and the talk of him attempting suicide thrice.

10) Karan Johar
